The materials may then be donated to organizations such as Habitat for Humanity for reuse, netting the donor a tax deduction.

The California Energy Commision is on the verge of adopting new 2013 standards to require solar-ready roofs, better windows, and whole house fans in new construction. The proposed standard is estimated to be 25% more energy-efficient that the current one.
