ALERT - Calif. Property Tax Postponement

On February 20, 2009, the Governor and Legislature indefinitely suspended the Property Tax Postponement (PTP) program.

The State Controller's Office will no longer be able to provide property tax posponement assistance to senior, disabled, or blind homowners that may depend on this program for property tax relief.

This newly enacted law Senate Bill X3 8, (Chapter 4, Statutes of 2009) prohibits the State Controller's Office from accepting any property tax postponement applications after February 20, 2009.

PTP claim forms will not be distributed for the 2009 filing season which normallly begins on May 15th.

The California State Controller's Office is hopeful that the Legislature will reconsider its decision to suspend this worthwhile program. For the most current information about the PTP program, please visit our website at www.sco.ca.gov
