In 1945, the California Legislature passed the Library Distribution Act , which established the depository library program to make California state documents readily available to the citizens of the state. The California State Library is responsible for carrying out the provisions of the Act by developing and maintaining standards for depository libraries, granting depository status to libraries, and administering the depository program.
104 libraries statewide participate in the program and receive publications produced by California state agencies. Contra Costa County Library is a selective depository for state documents distributed by the Office of State Publishing.
The 2016 Building Code, effective January 1, 2017, is available in print format at the Pleasant Hill Library. Previous editions of the Code are also available.
